FAQ

Herb Alpert's Totems at the Field Museum in Chicago

Can I write to you for a grant?

Grants are by invitation only. We do not accept or respond to unsolicited proposals or letters of inquiry. Our work is focused on specific priority areas of interest and decisions for funding are made based on research done by foundation staff. In this way we are able to identify opportunities that most appropriately fit our objectives at a particular point in time.

Additionally we are only able to fund 501(c)3 organizations and cannot fund directly to individuals.

Have the Alperts funded outside the three areas listed in “Areas of Funding”?

Yes – in the early years of the Foundation, the Alperts funded many causes, including support to health and medical research and environmental issues. Since the mid-2000s it was determined that their support could be more effective if targeted in the few priority areas described on this site.

Does the Herb Alpert Foundation fund internationally?

The Foundation currently only funds domestically, with a specific focus on the Los Angeles County region.
